• BASIC EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN – EMT (B).
• EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, DEFIBRILLATOR TRAINED – EMT (D).
• EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, INFUSION AND INTUBATION TRAINED – EMT (I & I).
• ADVANCED EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN – EMT (A).
• REGISTERED EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, PARAMEDIC – REMT (P).

AMBULANCE ASSISTANT.

This level will is designed to provide the minimum standard applicable to all existing ambulance drivers. The minimum requirement will be the successful completion of a one hundred and twenty Medical First Responder training course.

BASIC EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN – EMT (B).

This is the initial entry grade for all professional pre-hospital care providers. This grade is inclusive of ambulance staff and nursing personnel who can demonstrate appropriate training and experience in line with P.S.E.M.T. published standards (Appendix 1 refers). Entry may be afforded to applicants who are outside the full time professional sector on achievement of the following requirements:

• Completion of a P.S.E.M.T. approved 280 hour training course and the achievement of the required pass mark in all sections of the National Final Examinations thereof (Appendix 1 refers).
• Proof of a minimum of 250 hours hands-on patient management in the preceding twelve months. This must be confirmed by the applicants Officer – In – Charge and duly approved by the Society's National Executive Committee.
• Completion of a minimum of forty hours continuous medical education.
• Submission of a personal log of experience gained.
• Successful completion of National Examinations.

All applicants must be a Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), with a minimum of three (3) months full time post EMT (B) certification experience, which must include emergency response duties. They must have successfully completed the prescribed defibrillation module, and examinations thereof, which will include all the content as outlined in the Society's National Syllabus (Appendix 2 Refers): Re-registration will be required on an annual basis and all applications thereof must be accompanied by a competency certificate duly countersigned by an Emergency Medical Practitioner who has been approved by P.S.E.M.T.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, INFUSION AND INTUBATION TRAINED – EMT (I)

Entry criteria must be that of EMT (D) with a minimum of six (6) months post certification experience. Certification will be offered upon successful completion of an eighty hour course of instruction in cannulation and fluid therapy and advanced airway management to include endotracheal intubation (Appendix 3 Refers) and examinations thereof. Practical training must achieve at least 25 successful "unaided live" cannulations and intubations as certified by the Supervising Medical Practitioner and/or Registered Ambulance Training Officer. Re-registration will be required on an annual basis and all applications thereof must be accompanied by a competency certificate duly countersigned by a Emergency Medical Practitioner who has been approved by P.S.E.M.T.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, ADVANCED – EMT (A).

Entry criteria must be that of EMT-I+I with not less than six (6) months post certification experience. In addition to this, all applicants must have successfully completed two hundred hours instruction in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Management (Appendix 5 Refers) and the examinations thereof. Re-registration will be required on an annual basis and all applications thereof must be accompanied by competency certificate duly countersigned by a Emergency Medical Practitioner who has been approved by P.S.E.M.T.

REGISTERED EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN PARAMEDIC – REMT (P) .

The minimum entry criteria for Paramedic Training is Emergency Medical Technician Advanced (A), in accordance with the standards set out by the P.S.E.M.T.\ P.B.E.M.T., with at least six months post registration experience. All applicants must have successfully completed the three hundred and sixty hour Advanced Clinical Training modules, which will include the elements as outlined in Appendix 6 . This level will only be available to those who complete a minimum of seven hundred and fifty hours actual operational experience per year. Re-registration will be required on an annual basis and all applications thereof must be accompanied by a competency certificate, which is countersigned by a Emergency Medical Practitioner who has been duly approved by P.S.E.M.T.
